Is Prayer An Outdated Oddity?

Picture 33

  • Do you think prayer is outdated?
  • Does God really listen to us?
  • Does prayer and intercession really move God’s emotions? Or is prayer a waste of time?

AN INTERESTING DISCUSSION

First, let’s decide if God really cares about His creation, the earth and the universe?

You alone are the LORD; You have made heaven, The heaven of heavens, with all their host, The earth and everything on it, The seas and all that is in them, And You preserve them all. The host of heaven worships You. (Nehemiah 9:6)

In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was in the beginning with God. All things were made through Him, and without Him nothing was made that was made. In Him was life, and the life was the light of men. And the light shines in the darkness, and the darkness did not comprehend it. (John 1:1-5)

These passages and more, give us detail that God certainly cares about all that He has created. An artist who has just finished a piece of art cares immensely for what he has created.

Secondly, let’s decide if God upholds His promises?

That faith and that knowledge come from the hope for life forever, which God promised to us before time began. And God cannot lie. (Titus 1:2)

We tell you the Good News about the promise God made to our ancestors. God has made this promise come true for us, his children, by raising Jesus from the dead. (Acts 13:32-33)

Again, these passages and more determine for us that God cannot lie and since He cannot lie, His promises are true and eternal. God never turns His back on a promise and commitment.

These passages tell us God loves what He has created and cannot lie and He will fulfill every promise. Now let’s see if He answers prayer?

The parable mentioned in Luke 11 tells us something about prayer and intercession. The parable goes something like this.

You go to a friend’s house and knock on the door. Since you have no bread to give away, you knock on the door needing bread to give another friend who is hungry. From behind the door you hear, “Go away it is late, my kids are asleep and I cannot give you anything”. So, you knock again, and again the same response comes from behind the door.

Listen to this verse:

I tell you, even though he will not get up and give him anything because he is his friend, yet because of his persistence he will get up and give him as much as he needs. (Luke 11:8)

PERSISTENCE IS THE KEY?

Prayer and intercession moves the Father’s heart towards you, His creation, the nations and all that He has created because He cares. The key to intercession and prayer, is persistence, keep banging on heavens door. God will fulfill His desires and He will fulfill them through you, and it begins with a “life style of intercession”. His desires are clear. God is establishing heaven here on the earth, the mechanism He moves through to accomplish His desires, is intercession and prayer.

So, now that you know prayer and intercession is not an outdated oddity and is essential in the kingdom of God, always remember this:

So I tell you, ask, and God will give to you. Search, and you will find. Knock, and the door will open for you. Yes, everyone who asks will receive. The one who searches will find. And everyone who knocks will have the door opened. (Luke 11:9-10)

Intercession and prayer makes it possible for you to “Live Lighter Today”.

QUESTION OF THE DAY:

How has intercession and prayer changed your life? Tell the story.
