Not About “Should” and “Ought Too”

Picture 29

Just the other day I was having a relaxed time sipping on my favorite caffeine drink at a local coffeehouse. A new friend named Jamie came up to me, sat down and started declaring that he hated sin. He reminded me that sin was ugly and he was asking God to help him stop sinning.

I said, “Jamie, God loves you more than you hate your sin”. Jamie said, “I know, but I still hate sin.” I reminded him that he was dead to sin and alive to Christ. “I know, but I still hate sin”, Jamie said.

I know it sounds so righteous to say, “I hate sin”, but when we focus on our sin we have missed the mark. The bible is not about “should” and “ought too”. The bible is completely designed by God to produce results.

God comes from the inside out, never from the outside in. This is what Jesus meant when He spoke to the Pharisees in Matthew 23:25.

Woe to you, teachers of the law and Pharisees, you hypocrites! You clean the outside of the cup and dish, but inside they are full of greed and self-indulgence (Matthew 23:25 NIV).

As you run after God, you can expect results, He will change you, He will mature you and this will cause you to “Live Lighter Today”.

What results have you notice in your life because you have run after God verses trying to stop sinning?
