Oscar and Maggie were extremely sad. Maggie’s dad had just passed away. Maggie and her dad didn’t have much of a relationship while she was growing up. Maggie’s dad was an alcoholic and while she had good memories of her dad, most memories she had were ones of emotional abuse that comes with the chaotic lifestyle of living with an alcoholic parent.
When Maggie was about 20 years old, her dad started going to Alcoholic’s Anonymous meetings. After ten years of being sober, her dad experienced great healing from all of his emotional scars. This healing from God gave way to Maggie’s dad asking her to forgive him for all the emotional pain that he had placed on her growing up. Because of the depths of his sincerity, Maggie forgave her dad.
Well, after an additional twenty years of sobriety, Maggie and her dad had established a deep and meaningful relationship. Along with Maggie and Oscar, her dad and her kids had formed deep memories with Grandpa.
Maggie’s dad was always a good businessman and had produced a quite size able business dealing in real estate. In 2010 after Maggie’s dad passed away the estate of her dad was ready for distribution to his heirs, which of course included Maggie.
But, there was legal snags with the estate and the inheritance was not going to be disbursed anytime soon. In other words, even though her dad had passed away there was no inheritance ready for distribution, at least at this point in time.
Check this passage of scripture out:
Now if we are children, then we are heirs—heirs of God and co-heirs with Christ, if indeed we share in his sufferings in order that we may also share in his glory. (Romans 8:17 NIV)
There is a difference between the natural and supernatural
We are co-heirs with Christ. As co-heirs with Christ we get everything that Christ has. The beauty of being joint heirs with Christ is we have our inheritance now! The difference between earthly inheritance and heavenly inheritances is that we don’t have to wait for God’s inheritance. To receive an earthly inheritance someone has to die. Christ has already died; therefore, you get your heavenly inheritance now. Christ has already placed the inheritance in our account. Our inheritance is waiting for us to make a withdrawal. But you will not make a withdrawal until you understand that you now have the privilege to activate such a withdrawal as a son or daughter of God!
Sons and daughters who are co-heirs of Christ are designed to “live lighter today”.
